Tunisia has called on the international community to mobilize support to developing countries and increase the funding allocated to Africa, with a view to helping the continent overcome the repercussions of the pandemic and to redress its economy.

In a speech he has made during a working session on the development of the African continent held on Tuesday, the city of Matera, Italy, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Othman Jerandi, called for the need for governments, the private sector and the influential parties in development to develop common mechanisms in this direction.

The working session is held in the meetings of the Foreign Ministers and Cooperation for the Development of G20, currently chaired by Italy.

Tunisia has, on this occasion, emphasized the importance of strengthening South-South and tripartite cooperation in order to maintain the economic growth rates of African countries and protect vulnerable African economies, according to a statement from the  Foreign Affairs’ department .

Jerandi highlighted Africa’s difficulties because of the COVID-19 pandemic, calling for more efforts, at the regional and international level, with a view to ensuring African countries

In addition, the Foreign Minister emphasized the important role of the G20 in the resolution of environmental problems, through the establishment of partnership projects with African countries whose objective is to promote the green economy and opt for renewable energies.
