The Political Bureau of the Democratic Current, meeting Thursday August 26 and Friday August 27 to examine the passage of a month since the implementation of the exceptional measures announced by the President of the Republic, published a press release where it spoke of the delay of the measures serious fight against corruption, despite certain “suspensions which affected some of its symbols and its claim to fight against political corruption by activating the report of the Court of Auditors and by applying the law to candidates, lists and parties having received foreign or suspect funding .. ”
It expressed its growing concern about the gathering of powers in the hands of the President of the Republic without a clear time horizon, and the accompanying arbitrary measures which undermine rights and freedoms and fuel disunity within a single body. Tunisian, and political ambiguities and irresponsible calls to suspend the constitution and an undue delay in appointing the government and filling vacancies in several ministries.
The movement called on the President of the Republic to provide serious guarantees to protect rights and freedoms by announcing all the exceptional measures taken or to be taken, specifying their deadlines, ensuring their respect for the rights and freedoms guaranteed by the constitution and the law, and by moving them away from the logic of generalization and collective punishment.
According to the same source, the Political Bureau of the Democratic Current also expressed its condemnation of the interruption of the work of the National Commission for the Fight against Corruption and its request for the urgent opening of its headquarters and the appointment of an official for that.
