The President of the Republic, Kais Saied, received, on Friday 10 September 2021, the High Representative and Vice-President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell. The Head of State said that this visit highlights the importance of relations between Tunisia and the European Union.

In this context, Saied reiterated Tunisia’s will to further strengthen its strategic partnership with the EU. He also made it known that his country is deeply attached to human rights and democracy, values ​​that it shares with the European Union.

Saied also recalled that exceptional measures had to be taken in order to save the country and respond to the will of the people, specifying that he did not intend to tamper with the gains. And to add that other measures will be decreed, in order to consolidate the democratic process in Tunisia.

According to a statement published by the presidency of the Republic, refuting all the slanders and refuting all allegations, the President of the Republic clarifies that during his meetings with other foreign delegations, it was emphasized that Tunisia is a sovereign country and sovereignty is in it for the people, and there is no room for interference in its choices that stem from the popular will, and it is not accepted to be in the seat of the student who receives lessons and then He then waits for the number that will be assigned to him or the note that will be written in his numbers card.
