On Monday, September 6, 2021, “I am vigilant” filed a third criminal case against Tunisian Football federation President Wadie Jary, concerning customs related offenses, damage to the administration, as well as media on suspicion of illicit enrichment, which the organization has submitted to the National Anti-Corruption Commission against the rector.
The organization’s criminal complaint to the Attorney General of the Court of First Instance in Tunisia against Wadie Jary and members of the sports promotion company promosport is the subject of damage to the administration against the background of the publicity contract between the federation and promosport in 2018.
On June 12, 2019, “I am vigilant” announced “suspicions of corruption and manipulation of tunisian team uniforms” for the 2018 Russia World Cup, and in 2020 filed a criminal complaint against Tunisian Football Federation President Wadie Jary.
Wadie Jary
The President of the Tunisian Football federation posted a blog post on his Facebook page on Monday evening (September 6th, 2021), in response to the organization’s complaint, saying that “some people who have abused others are satisfied with a satisfactory instinct or service to other parties and agendas known to some and unknown to others.”
He explained that the Sports Promotion Company had created a basis for financing sports activities under Chapters 67 to 70 of Law No. 63 of 1984, a company funded only by football.
“We complain to the Sports Promotion Company because it has concluded a contract that benefits the national teams and therefore the national interest, and we complain to the president of the federation and in a scandalous distortion we spread the news in the form of a criminal complaint against Wadie Jary, as if I am the personal beneficiary even for one penny of this contract,” he said in his blog post.
“I challenge everyone to prove a personal benefit to me from this 6 million dinar contract over three years,” he said, adding that the federation received only 1.5 million dinars from it.
What cases does Jary face ?
The Economic and Financial Research Squad recently referred a series of financial corruption files concerning Tunisian Football Federation President Wadie Jary to the attention of the financial judicial pole in the capital, and an investigating judge pledged with the permission of the Public Prosecutor’s Office to open a research into the purpose.
Informed sources from the National Anti-Corruption Authority also told JDD Tunisie earlier that in 2020, the authority reached a report against the president of the Football federation Wadie Jary, accompanied by a document represented by a personal guidance card issued by the Ministry of Health confirming that Wadie Jary is no longer practising the medical profession since June 1, 2016, and does not receive a wage for his work as president of the football federation.
Between 2011 and 2016, he was attached to the Nabeul Sports Medicine Centre before being terminated by the Minister of Youth and Sports after a supervisory mission proved that he had completed only three clinics for a whole year and was paid the same wage as his colleague, who had completed nearly 900 clinics.
Among the cases facing Wadie Jary is a complaint filed by “I am vigilant” concerning a suspicion of corruption in the national football team shirt deal, which was classified by the Spanish newspaper Marca as the worst shirt in the 2019 World Cup. The Tunisian Football federation has applied for a tax exemption visa in order to release goods worth about 815,000 dinars, without paying customs fees and performance for Uhlsport, which supplies sports uniforms to national football teams, according to a judicial source for JDD Tunisie.
