The Johnson & Johnson vaccine is given as a single dose, which means no follow-up visits, and the vaccine is up to 85 percent effective against severe diseases.

AstraZeneca’s vaccine uses a harmless virus (the virus that causes the colds that infect chimpanzees) and is modified so that it cannot cause infection.
