President Kais Saied has chosen his path since July 25, a path that will prompt the appointment of a prime minister and the formation of a capable government as soon as possible, Reuters quoted President Walid al-Hajjam as saying on Thursday, September 9, 2021, adding that there is a tendency to change the political system that is the cause of the crisis, as he put it: “What paralysed the process is the political system and the constitution of 2014, which has proved many professions and shortcomings at the level of the executive and legislative branch.”
Al-Hajjam said the solution is to replace the current constitution with an interim system until a new authority is elected to lead the process of drafting a new constitution for the country.
President Kais Saied took action on July 25, 2021, to activate Chapter 80 of the constitution, under which parliament was frozen and the Tunisian government dissolved, a decision in response to calls by Tunisians who came out on the same day to demonstrate against the political system, which they described as corrupted and demanded its dissolution.
