In a blog post on Twitter, the former US ambassador to Tunisia during the period (2009-2012), Gordon Gray, said that Tunisia is not invited to the democracy summit that will be held in early December in Washington.

According to the post of the former ambassador, the preliminary list indicates the absence of the Tunisian state from the list of those invited to attend the summit. On the other hand, the invitation of civil society is still not confirmed.

In light of the freezing of Parliament elected by the people and the issuance of Decree 117, according to which all powers have become in the hands of the President of the Republic, on several occasions, the United States of America has expressed  its concern about the lack of clarity in the new political path.

The United States of America called on Tunisia to return quickly to the democratic path to ensure the peaceful transfer of power and the right to freedom of expression and the independence of the institutions of sovereignty.

The Democracy Summit is expected to be held on December 9-10, 2021 in Washington, in the presence of heads and governments of democratic countries and civil society organizations.

The promotion of Internet freedom is one of the most important topics that will be on the table during the summit.

Next year, a second summit will be held to study the fight against tyranny and work to establish human rights and respect for individual rights in the world.
