The Assembly of the Representatives of the People will hold plenary sessions on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, July 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16, 2021. The agenda includes consideration of a bill related to the controversial Water Code No. 66/2019, as civil society organizations consider that the draft Water Code has many shortcomings despite the amendment some of its chapters.

The coordinator of the Tunisian Water Observatory, Alaa Eddine Marzouki, told “JDD Tunse” that the Water Magazine project is fraught with many risks that threaten the sustainability and good governance of water resources, through the conflicting positions of the authorities in the water sector on the one hand and the transformations that the Water Magazine project has witnessed on the other hand in The real thirst crisis in most regions of the Republic remained.

He added that a copy was published to the public on October 13, 2019, but it was soon replaced by another unpublished copy and referred directly to the Committee on Agriculture, Food Security and Related Services. Marzouki explained that the acceleration in presenting the draft water code law to the plenary session scheduled for July 12, 2021, at a time when the country is experiencing a health disaster by all standards, without allowing a reading of this draft, whether it is for people’s representatives or components of civil society, represents an escape to Forward, the feeling of concern deepens over what he described as belittling the discussion of water policy that will extend its impact to future generations.

He insisted that Parliament did not deal seriously with the proposals of civil society in amending the chapters of the Water Code project for a Water Code that preserves the rights of future generations, calling for a broad and representative national consultation to further deepen understanding about its strategic importance and to fit its chapters with the requirements of the Constitution in order to achieve effective and serious governance for the disposal of resources aquatic.
