On Tuesday, December 14, 2021, the Secretary-General of the Tunisian General Labor Union, Noureddine Tabboubi, confirmed that the government asked the union to approve an economic program that includes a 10 percent reduction in Public service wages.

Taboubi added, during the regular conference of the Regional Labor Union in Sfax, that this economic program, which was presented by the government during a meeting with the Labor Union last Saturday, also provides for freezing wages for the next five years, lifting subsidies on basic materials and forfeiting in a number of public sector institutions.

Taboubi called for frankness with the people about the reality of the difficult economic conditions and for revealing the problems the country is going through in front of public opinion, instead of putting them only in “closed offices,” as he put it.
