Dozens of complaints are filed against MPs implicated in cases of money laundering, NSF cheques and even “defamation and insult to the military institution”. Other MPs including under house arrest.

Complaints that have intrigued public opinion and that have led some to ask for more explanations and details on the affairs of the accused MPs.

The resigning deputy of Qalb Touness, Zouhair Makhlouf, announced, this Monday, August 16, that he has been placed under house arrest.

Makhlouf said in a statute published on his Facebook page: “I was placed under house arrest this morning under decision No. 502 of August 16, 2021 issued by the Minister in charge of the Interior, in my house located in the city Habib Thamer in Maamoura, in the governorate of Nabeul, without legal justification and in contradiction with the Tunisian constitution and laws,  and international treaties, conventions and agreements signed by Tunisia.

It should be recalled that “the Minister of the Interior may order house arrest in a constituency

territorial or a specified locality, of any person, residing in one of the zones provided for in article

2 whose activity proves to be dangerous for the public security and order of the said areas. The administrative authority must take all measures to ensure the subsistence of these persons as well as that of their famine” according to article 5 of Decree No. 78-50 of 26 January 1978.

Deputy Yassine Ayari is sentenced to two months in prison following a court decision against him by the Military Court of Appeal on 6 December 2018.

Deputy Faycel Tebini is being prosecuted for insulting the former prosecutor of Jendouba, he was arrested and questioned by the investigating judge who issued a warrant of detention against him.

In a statement granted to the channel Wataniya 1, on August 2, 2021, the spokesman of the Financial Judicial Pole, Mohsen Dali, indicated that several deputies are linked to cases of betrayal of trust, fraud and money laundering, indicating that the lifting of the immunity of deputies became a law after its publication in the Official Journal of the Tunisian Republic.

He added that in the coming days, “large files” will be lifted.

Dali also pointed out that there are Members who have adhered to immunity and others who have not.

Mohsen Dali also mentioned the involvement of more than 30 MPs in the cases of unpaid checks, indicating that a judicial session was scheduled for next November on 26 cases, while the rest is still being searched by security units.

Given the seriousness of the charges against them, justice is called upon to act quickly
