The head of government Najla Bouden was tasked with forming the government yesterday, September 29, 2021, after a long waiting for the Tunisian street for more than two months after announcing the extraordinary decisions on July 25, 2021 and the resulting parliamentary freeze and exemption for a number of officials, the prime minister faces major challenges and bets related to fighting corruption and improving the social and economic situation in particular.

Economic Reform Bet With the decline in investment and the slowdown in growth in Tunisia due to the spread of the epidemic, and the instability and fog of the political scene in Tunisia, economic reform is the most important point in the agenda of the government program, which will be formed soon, according to economist Ridha Chkoundali, in addition to working to renegotiate with donor countries and the International Monetary Fund, he said.

In a statement to Jdd-Tunisie, Chkoundali welcomed the commissioning of a new prime minister, which would add to the state of economic stability in the country, adding that improving the economic situation and the return of foreign investment is mainly linked to the appropriate political climate in the country, and continued that the most important step must be taken by the government to be formed is to develop serious and effective plans to save the public finances and provide urgent funding to meet the state’s current fiscal deficit.

Fighting corruption The president of the republic asked the newly appointed prime minister in charge of forming the government demanded that the fight against corruption be the priority of the new government, which will continue its work until the end of exceptional measures due to the penetration of corruption in the various structures and institutions of the sovereign state, which deepened the social crisis in the country and contributed to the increase of poverty and inequality of opportunities, and if it is not combated corruption will remain an obstacle in Tunisia’s path towards the consolidation of the foundations of social justice.

The prime minister will have a less important role than former heads of government under Presidential Order 117 dated September 22nd, 2021, which authorizes the President to implement a Cabinet reshuffle under Chapter 12.
