Yesterday, Wednesday, June 2, the Central Committee for Municipal Council Elections in Libya announced the indefinite postponement of opening the door for candidacy for the previously announced municipal elections.

The committee confirmed that, based on the letter addressed to it by the Ministry of Local Government, it was decided to postpone the opening of candidacy for municipalities that had been previously announced, but it will continue in the voter registration stage.

On May 19, the head of the Central Committee for Municipal Council Elections, in charge of Sadok Harari, announced the opening of registration for candidates in the municipal council elections for 24 municipalities, scheduled for Saturday, June 5 to June 17.

 

 

 

It should be noted that ,Harari said in a press conference on Wednesday, May 19, that “the committee has started its work in 116 municipalities across the country; Elections were held in 43 municipalities, of which 40 mayors were elected, and their councils began work, and the voter register will be opened in the remaining municipalities, and some of them will hold elections for the first time.

The committee revealed that its municipal council consists of 7 seats, 5 of which are for the general category, a seat for women and a seat for people with special needs, provided that the main list includes 5 main candidates and 5 alternates.
