In this delicate post-25 July 2021 period, Tunisia continues to move forward despite the vagaries and dangers behind which are hidden those who feel that they are the big losers of this new stage that comes to cut their momentum.
It is true that uprooting an evil that has taken place in the daily lives of Tunisians for more than a decade is not an easy task or a sinecure. What Kaïs Saïed, the President of the Republic, has been doing for about three weeks is far from being an easy task and everything will be done by this rotten political class driven out of Parliament to reverse the trend and regain control.
The first reactions, those of the dance of the slaughtered rooster, came from the nahdhaouis who quickly demanded foreign support with threats that border on the ridiculous. Subsequently, through the dialogue platforms, we were treated to statements in radio and television channels invaded for a long time by the ruling alliance, just to condemn what has been called a coup d’état.
Far from the ramps and lights, other hostile reactions to the President of the Republic are in the making to discourage him and to encourage him to backtrack.
In this period of heatwave, fires are predicted almost everywhere in mountainous and forest regions. We cannot talk about a criminal act for each of these fires that are taking place in other countries in the region as well, but we must recognise that such suspicions are necessary in a few cases, according to experts in the field and senior civil protection officials.
Investigations with no future!
In fact, near the mountainous regions of Kasserine, the police have arrested four suspects whom they accuse of having caused fires. Admittedly, an investigation has been opened, but the alleged criminals have already been in the hands of the investigators for three days without anything filtering out about what actually happened.
In such situations, however, any hesitation to enforce the law and any slowing down of investigations can only serve the interests of the sponsors of such acts who stand behind these suspects.
Normally, the truth must be quickly disclosed and the suspects, in the event of confirmation of the accusations, must quickly appear before the courts to serve as an example to all those who dare to imitate them, while remaining on the kits of the “thinking heads” of these gangs.
Kaïs Saïed met with the members of the National Commission to Combat Natural Disasters. A presentation of the system for the protection of agricultural and forestry resources and the preventive measures put in place to combat forest fires was presented, but it was obvious, through the remarks made by the President of the Republic, that criminals stand behind the upsurge in these fires, which made him say, as a threat to them: “You will burn with the same fire that you started”.
Mea culpa
These fires come at a time when another case is attracting the attention of Tunisians, that of currency trafficking, of which the mule was, quite simply, a judge. Without going into the report of the Customs services that unequivocally indict this judge and the combination developed to leave this woman at large, we should refer to the communiqué of the Association of Tunisian Magistrates (AMT), published on Thursday, August 12, 2021, a communiqué that calls on the Council of the Judicial Order to be more rigorous in the handling of the files of the former public prosecutor at the Court of First Instance of Tunis, Béchir Akremi, the first president of the Court of Cassation Taieb Rached and the judge arrested recently, in possession of foreign currency. The AMT also called on the General Inspectorate at the Ministry of Justice to entrust it with all dangerous cases whose investigations have not yet been closed, recalling the impact of the processing of these files on the evaluation of magistrates.
Justice not yet liberated
These are very revealing signs that justice is still unable to free itself from the nets of those who had taken it hostage for a whole decade.
However, such multi-speed justice, which is complicit in all the ills and disasters that have struck the country, is as dangerous as the arson attacks of recent days. And to vigorously oppose it, all components of the country, mainly those of civil society, must work to strengthen the first line put in place by Said.
