According to an interview with the German Press Agency, the president of the Assembly of People’s Representatives and the Ennahdha Movement, Rached Ghannouchi, ruled out “any turning back.”
“There is no question of going back to the 1959 constitution (…) The Tunisian people have chosen freedom and they are not prepared to give up this achievement, there will be no return to dictatorship”explained Ghanouchi
It should be mentionned that the genral secretary of the UGTT, Noureddine Taboubi had recently revealed that the President of the Republic, Kais Saied, told him that he wants to use an amended version of the 1959 constitution, once approved by a popular referendum.
