A security patrol under the Monastir customs investigation unit arrested, on the highway connecting the town of El Jem to Sfax, a Tunisian registered vehicle driven by a judge. After checking, officers found a bag in the back seat of the car, containing some money in foreign currency and another in Tunisian dinars.

In this context, the spokesperson for the general direction of the Tunisian customs, colonel Haythem Zanned, indicated to “Jdd-Tunisia”, this Wednesday August 11, 2021, that the judge was arrested, yesterday, Tuesday August 10, 2021 , as part of investigative work on a currency smuggling network. The amount of foreign currency seized from the judge was estimated at 438 thousand euros in addition to 63 thousand Tunisian dinars, or the equivalent of 1.5 million dinars.

Zanned also confirmed that the judge admitted that she had a background in transferring funds, without revealing the value of those sums, and that she had provided information on the identity of the people with whom she was dealing. .

For her part, the judge who exercises at the Court of First Instance of Grombalia, declared, in the presence of a representative of the public prosecutor, that “she intended to transfer these sums of money to one of the towns. South for the benefit of certain actors active in the field of contraband, according to the press release published by the Tunisian customs.

A report was drawn up to this effect and the sum of money was seized, along with the car, while the public prosecutor undertook to complete the legal proceedings with the judge.

It should be noted that the prosecution issued a travel ban against the judge.
