The Arab Organization for Information and Communication Technologies organized the “Building Digital Libya” summit, in cooperation with the General Authority for Communications and Informatics in the State of Libya, during the period from 26 to 28 October 2021 at the Laico Hotel – Tunis, Tunisia.
This important event was organized under the supervision of the League of Arab States and in cooperation with the Ministry of Communication Technologies of the Republic of Tunisia and many regional and international bodies active in the field of the digital economy.
High-level speakers and international experts, in addition to representatives of major international companies working in the field, participated in this important event.
More than 300 participants attended this summit which also witnessed a wide and active participation of high-level delegations and eminent personalities from many bodies and companies from the public and private sectors in Libya, such as the National Authority for Information Security and Safety, New Generation Company, Al Madar, Libya Trade Network, Libya Hatif Company, Libyana Mobile Phone Company, Technical Sky Company for Internet and Information Technology Services, Muamalat Company, in addition to the Arab Consensus Bank and the Central Bank of Libya.
In addition to the main symposium, this summit included an exhibition and a space for partnerships and agreements with major international companies specialized in the field of communication technology, which led to the holding of more than 50 B2B meetings.
During the first day of the summit, the exhibition was opened. It witnessed the wide and active participation of many institutions and companies from the public and private sectors working in the field.
The main symposium was held on the second day and was opened by His Excellency the Engineer Mohamed Ben Amor, Director-General of the Arab Organization for Communication and Information Technologies, at which he delivered a welcoming statement to all the guests and thanked the organization’s partners, the sponsors of the Summit and all the speakers for accepting the invitation to contribute to the enrichment and dissemination of this important event.
The President of the Central Bank of Tunisia, Mr. Marouane Abbasi, the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Dr. Nizar Bennaji, and the President of the General Authority for Communications and Informatics of the State of Libya, Engineer Salem Abdallah Mohamed Naji, took the floor.
During the main deliberations of the symposium, promising indicators of information technology in the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya and its future prospects were presented. Also, the current legislative environment governing the sector and ongoing initiatives were discussed.
The focus of this symposium was on the need to present the comprehensive national strategy for e-services, in order to achieve an effective, transparent and sustainable e-government.
The importance of developing a plan and implementing a comprehensive national plan for cyber security and updating laws, legislation and procedures to push the digital economy and e-government and providing a safe and reliable infrastructure for electronic transactions was also emphasized.
