Representative Hichem Ajbouni confirmed to “JDD” that the Democratic Bloc filed today, Monday, July 19, 2021, a petition to challenge the economic recovery law and settle exchange violations with the temporary authority to monitor the constitutionality of bills.
He considered that this law does not include any serious and real measures that lead to economic revival, as it came too late, after small and medium-sized enterprises suffered as a result of the repercussions of the Corona pandemic for many months.
He pointed out that the law explicitly includes procedures for money laundering, in addition to a clear violation of Article 10 of the Constitution, which stipulates the need to combat tax evasion and fraud, in addition to the procedural defect related to adding chapters on the night of the law’s approval, without passing it to the Finance Committee and without explaining the reasons for adding such chapters nor their objectives and expected profitability.
Last Monday, Parliament approved a bill related to reviving the economy, which includes 20 chapters related to several areas, including reducing the tax burden on institutions, and boosting investment by enabling companies to re-evaluate their properties according to their real value.
The chapters also include procedures for incorporating the activities and currency derived from the parallel economy into the economic cycle, through settlements and facilities for integrating the informal economy into the organized market.
It is noteworthy that the Assembly of the Representatives of the People failed to pass this law, which has been suspended for years, in its plenary session held on Wednesday, July 9, before passing it a week ago.
