A naval unit of the maritime force rescued, on Saturday evening, in the south-eastern region of El Ataya, on the island of Kerkennah, 101 irregular migrants of different nationalities, after receiving a distress call from the plate -Miskar gas form, the Department of National Defense said in a statement on Sunday.

The defense ministry said the migrants, aged 1 to 50, including 6 women and 4 children, said they took to sea Friday evening from the Libyan town of Zouara, bound for Europe.

He also noted that they were taken to the commercial port of Sfax, where they were handed over to National Guard agents in order to finalize the legal proceedings against them.

In a second operation, another naval unit succeeded on Sunday in defeating an illegal immigration operation in Djerba, involving 13 illegal immigrants of Tunisian nationality (aged 19 to 39), including two women. .

It should be noted that these were handed over to agents of the National Guard at the port of Zarzis, to complete the legal proceedings against them.
