Houaida Sekri: “Humanitarian Action Is Not a Choice, But a Duty”

In the peaceful setting of Lugano, in southern Switzerland, a Tunisian woman has chosen absolute commitment. Houaida Sekri, originally from Meknassy in the governorate of Sidi Bouzid, dedicates her energy to helping the children of Gaza. After eighteen years in Switzerland, this health and cosmetics specialist founded the organization “Les Anges – Suisse” (The Angels – Switzerland) in August 2024, dedicated to humanitarian relief in the Palestinian enclave.

“Humanitarian Work Is Not a Choice, It’s a Duty”

“Les Anges is not just an association—it reflects a deep conviction,” explains Houaida Sekri. “I don’t advocate for any political party, only for the children buried under bombs in Gaza.” Her commitment transcends borders and differences. Despite the small Arab presence in the canton of Ticino, her organization has managed to create a true humanitarian bridge between Switzerland and Gaza.

Concrete Actions on the Ground

The initiatives of “Les Anges – Suisse” are diverse and target the most urgent needs. The association distributes food baskets to families in need, organizes remote sponsorships for orphans, and works to build schools to ensure educational continuity despite the war. Facing severe shortages of drinking water, regular distributions are organized. The group also provides free medical care for children, the primary victims of the conflict.

Expanding the Solidarity Network

Today, Houaida Sekri is working on a new project in partnership with a Geneva-based NGO. Her goal is clear: to create an even broader and more effective solidarity network. “I invite all associations to join us,” she declares. “Let’s unite our strength for the children of Palestine!”

A Steadfast and Silent Commitment

Unlike some temporary activists, Houaida Sekri’s dedication is constant and profound. She embodies the spirit of Tunisia’s expatriate youth—remaining true to her roots while fighting for just causes. “Our mission is not limited to providing food or water,” she insists. “It’s about restoring hope, allowing these children to reclaim a dignified life.”

Her creed resonates like a call to action: “Childhood must not be buried under the rubble.” A phrase that alone captures the essence of her struggle.
