The diplomatic ballet continues in Tunisia, since the announcement on July 25 of the state of emergency by the President of the Republic Kais Saied. Today, it is around the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy / Vice-President of the European Commission, Joseph Borrell, to pay an official visit to Tunisia on September 9 and 10. This will be his first official visit to the country as High Representative.

According to the press release from the European delegation in Tunis, it will meet with the independent bodies established by the 2014 Constitution, as well as with representatives of Tunisian civil society and political actors.

He will then meet with the Director of the Cabinet of the President of the Republic, Nadia Akacha, as well as with the Managing Director of the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Investment Support, Sihem Boughdiri.

He will be received tomorrow Friday by the President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed.

However, according to the correspondent of the French newspaper “Le Point” , Benoit Delmas, the High Commissioner does not have an appointment with the head of state. He will be content to meet Nadia Akacha.

It should be noted that the Free Destourian Party (PDL) has announced its refusal to respond to the invitation to meet with Mr. Josep Borrell.

According to a statement released this Wednesday, September 8, 2021 by the party, MP Thamer Saad received an invitation to attend an informal meeting between frozen parliamentarians, politicians and the European official, at the residence of the Union Ambassador European Union in Tunisia.

The boycott decision comes, explains the PDL, through its conviction of the people’s right to decide their own fate, and as part of the commitment to face internal political crises in a Tunisian-Tunisian context.
