Prime Minister Najla Bouden Romdhan chaired, Friday, at the Government Palace in Kasbah, the first meeting of the Ministerial Committee for Maritime Affairs, which dealt with launching and preparing the national strategy in the maritime field, and preparing for the mandatory evaluation that the International Maritime Organization will carry out in 2022-2023 to assess the maritime safety system of the Tunisian state and follow-up the file of the protection of the underwater heritage.
At the beginning of the session, the General Secretary for Maritime Affairs, Asmaa Shiri Laabidi, gave a presentation on the priority files, which are to launch the preparation of the national strategy in the maritime field, within the framework of a comprehensive and integrated approach for better governance of the Tunisian maritime system, and the development of a sustainable blue economy that enables Determining priority and value-added sectors and activities, and setting the necessary action plans to advance and develop them so as to create new opportunities for investment, training and employment, and raise the economic profitability of these sectors.
The Head of Government stressed, by the way, the great importance of starting the preparation of the first national strategy in the maritime field for the Tunisian state, which she said will enable the transition from sectoral planning to comprehensive and integrated planning, in a way that enables controlling options and strategic directions for the sustainable exploitation of Tunisian maritime spaces and what is It provides promising opportunities for investment, employment and development.
She also stressed the need for all structures to be involved in this important work, and the continuous follow-up to the work of preparing the national strategy in the maritime field, and the need to include its outputs within the next development plan.
On the other hand, the Prime Minister highlighted the need to expedite the follow-up of priority files in preparation for the mandatory evaluation that will be carried out by the International Maritime Organization, and the involvement of all structures within the work of the Committee for the Coordination of State Intervention at Sea in the General Secretariat for Maritime Affairs, in order to progress in completing all required procedures and presenting the results reached in the next session of the Ministerial Committee for Sea Affairs.
