Today, Wednesday, March 3, 2021, the “People Wants” party held a press conference to announce its program, under the slogan “We will continue where the revolution stopped,” bringing the number of political parties in Tunisia to 228, according to what the interests of the relationship with constitutional bodies and civil society announced on the date November 3, 2020.
The party’s executive director, Najd al-Khalafawi, said in a statement to “JDD”, that the party is youthful par excellence, with 90 percent of its members between 30 and 35 years old, which makes it distinct from the rest of the political parties that used to employ young people only for election campaigns, while they absent them from decision-making positions, as he put it.
“Excluding youth from political life on the grounds of lack of experience.”
Our interlocutor confirmed that young people are able today to change the country’s political system, which is what prompted them to form this party, whose program is based on many diverse axes, including economic and social ones, noting that the political parties on the scene have become worn out and no longer have anything to offer to the country.
Al-Khalafawi also considered that what is required today is not to wield old political faces, but to see youthful faces, with creative energies and new ideas capable of change, denouncing the policy of suppressing youth from participating in political life on the grounds of lacking the required experience.
The executive director of the “People Wants” party explained that the slogan of the party directed at youth is “Do not vote politically, but be the politician, and do not elect your deputy in the Assembly of the Representatives of the People, but be yourself the people’s representative,” especially since the goal of the party is to expand the electoral constituency, in light of the presence of representatives of a specific entity or dependent, from the same state, which prevents them from knowing all the problems related to that region, proposing in this regard merging the dependencies, especially the small ones, to become one electoral district.
Tunisia is plagued by corruption!
In the context of his discussion of the economic programs of the “People Wants” party, Najd Al-Khalafawi said that “Tunisia is ravaged by corruption,” and his party will work on reform and stand up to this scourge.
According to Al-Khalafawi, the “People Wants” party will also work to change the traditional view of tourism based only on the sea and the desert, and to open new horizons towards biological and forest tourism, Emphasizing the existence of ideas, however, it is the lack of political will that hinders their implementation.
Enrollment in the “People wants” Party is according to these criteria
Al-Khalafawi emphasized that the “People Wants” party is open to all young people, provided that the participant has not assumed previous political positions, and the party will work to train its members in the political field, gain experience, realize the benefit and achieve success as well, according to him.
The President of the Republic has nothing to do with the “People Wants” party
On its part, the Presidency of the Republic issued today, Wednesday, March 3, 2021, a communiqué, in which it confirmed that the President of the Republic did not belong to any party and was not behind the formation of any party and has no intention at all to establish a party.
It also stressed within the same communication that “no one has the right to cram the head of state into any organization, whatever its shape.”
