The “People Want” party published, yesterday May 31, 2021, a statement on the social networking site Facebook expressing its dissatisfaction with the general situation and the failure of the political class to fulfill its promises, calling on the retired military and former national security advisor, Muhammad Saleh al-Hmidi, to run for the upcoming presidential elections.
The party, which claims to include a group of young people who contributed to the success of Qaïes Saïed in the presidential elections, demanded the latter abandon the position, referring to a statement he made after winning the presidency that he “undertakes to return the given trust to its owners if he fails to achieve their will and their demands ”.
The party concluded that the solution to the current political inactivity is early elections to change the system of government.
The spokesperson for “the People Want” Abdelhadi Hamzawi told “JDD Tunisia” that the party withdrew the agency from President Qaïes Saïed according to the project that we were invited to, and which is based on withdrawing the agency from the elected person in the absence of achieving the goals for which he was elected.
He added that the President of the Republic has zero achievements, to date, zero legislative initiatives, zero laws, indicating that Qaïes Saïed did not activate any of his constitutional powers, bearing in mind that the powers of the President of the Republic are greater than those of the Prime Minister, contrary to what is rumored. The constitution indicates that the President of the Republic has the right to preside over the Council of Ministers whenever he wants … This means that the President of the Republic is able to preside over all councils of ministers and listen to them as he asks them for files and discusses with them problems and solutions.
He also stated that “the President of the Republic has the right to present legislative initiatives and draft laws that have priority consideration in the House of Representatives. However, to date, we have not glimpsed any single bill and examples are many.”
He continued, “The President of the Republic has left all his powers today while we find him fighting political battles and looking for other powers, which“ takes power to a dangerous turning point,” noting that Qaïes Saïed no longer cares about the people’s interest, which reflects his excessive selfishness and political adolescence,” as he put it. ”
