Today, Wednesday, September 29, 2021, the President of the Republic, Kais Saied, appointed Najla Bouden Romdhane as the head of government.

Among the first reactions to this assignment, the resigned leader of Ennahda movement, Samir Dilou, considered that assigning a woman to form a government for the first time in Tunisia’s history is a decision that deserves praise.

“Unfortunately, the symbolism of appointing a woman to this high position coincides with the suspension of the constitution and the uniqueness of the president of the republic with pharaonic powers, and without stopping at her actual powers, it may make her a front bearing the burdens of failure that a Tunisian who loves his country does not wish,” Dilo added in a blog post on his official Facebook page.

“Basing your appointment on Order 117 makes it unconstitutional and makes our government: an illegitimate government,” indicted Dilo.

Dilo adressed the new head of government saying “You have major challenges: you will head the government of a country whose economy is experiencing great difficulties and its public finances are in a situation that is not hidden from anyone, its street is divided, and the health situation – despite the remarkable improvement – is still fragile .., and you will have to answer a question that your counterparts in friendly and brotherly governments – or officials of donor institutions – may ask about your performance and your team’s oath without gaining the confidence of an elected legislative institution..!? .

As for the former president of the Democratic Women’s Association, Yosra Frawes, she wrote, “First, it is not a campus, secondly, do not make it a carrier of firewood during the era of Order 117 and the monopoly of authorities by the one Sunday.”

She added, “(…) Being a woman makes her a carrier of women’s issues, and if she lacks a feminist sense, she must adjust her strings since she thought of accepting the position as the first woman to head a government in Tunisia and the Arab region, as he will deal with her nationally and internationally on this basis.”

In the same context, the head of the Tunisian National Coalition, Neji Jalloul, considered that assigning a woman to form the government by the President of the Republic is a very good thing, given her position in Tunisian society.

Jalloul indicated in a statement to Jawhara FM radio, that the President of the Republic directed the selection of Tunisian intelligence and the Tunisian University, especially since she is experienced in the Ministry of Higher Education, an excellent choice, wishing her success “because that is success for Tunisia,” according to him.
