The Ministry of Cultural Affairs announced Tuesday evening that all cultural and artistic events are now suspended until the beginning of next August.
This measure is in application of government decisions announced on the evening of Tuesday, June 30, 2021, in order to fight against the alarming spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The pandemic situation in the country is experiencing a high spike in mortality and positive cases. According to a latest report from the Ministry of Public Health, the total number of deaths due to Covid, since March 2020, has reached 14,843 deaths while the number of vaccinated is 537,995 people who have received both doses.
For the second consecutive year, the summer artistic season will be disrupted and several festivals have decided to postpone their 2021 edition.
The Carthage International Festival has decided to postpone its 56th edition to August, subject to the improvement of the health situation. Initially scheduled from July 8 to August 17, this 56th edition risks being postponed again for the year 2022 after being postponed in 2020.
The international festival of Hammamet which was scheduled from July 10 to August 14. The holding of the 2021 edition is dependent on the improvement of the health situation.
Previously, other summer festivals announced the postponement of their 2021 edition for next year including Manarat, Mediterranean film festival, and Jazz in Carthage. This is the second postponement, after that of 2020, for these two major annual events.
The government presidency has published all the details concerning the work regime, for all sectors, during the next month. Targeted containment was decided in consultation with the National Committee for the Fight against the Coronavirus.
Vital sectors are excluded from targeted containment and the curfew in effect will be from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m.
Public and private cultural establishments are among others called upon to adopt teleworking whenever possible and to respect the application of the health protocol.
