The President of the Republic, Kais Saied, compared the current Tunisian constitution to “alleged prophecy and divinity,” and considered the current system to be a parliamentary and non-presidential system, insisting that the 2014 constitution was inappropriate and inadequate. This came when he received Lotfi Zitoun on Monday, June 21 at Carthage Palace.

Saied suggested that the problem before the 2011 revolution was not in the constitutional text, but rather in the absence of political pluralism, explaining that after the constitution was amended in 1976, the system became parliamentary or similar to the parliamentary system.

Said explained that Tunisia has moved, today, from a one-party rule to a one-lobby rule, meaning a group of people that control from behind the scenes, as he defined it.

This meeting was, also, an occasion to clarify some ambiguities, especially since the head of state does not distribute national bonds and does not take them away from anyone. Rather, he indicated in his various conversations that in order for the dialogue to be national, youth representatives from all parts of the country must participate, according to the text of the communication to the presidency of Republic.

This meeting represented an opportunity to discuss the general situation in the country, and to raise some political, social and legal issues.
