The President of the Republic, Kais Saied, went on Saturday, September 11, 2021, to Habib Bourguiba avenue in the capital, where a person set himself on fire.
Saied said in a media statement that the people have the right to express their will freely, stressing their respect for the constitution and constitutional legitimacy with the possibility of making amendments to the text of the constitution.
Saied added, in press statements during a tour of Habib Bourguiba avenue, that “there are those who talk about legitimacy and do not respect it.”
“We respected the law, we respected morals and all values, and we pledged to them the word of truth, but those with whom we agreed broke their promises,” said the president .
He also indicated that he will form the new government as soon as possible, saying: “We will carefully select the ministers of the next government to achieve the people’s demands.”
The President of the Republic hinted at the possibility of amending the constitution, saying: “I respect the constitution, but amendments can be made to its texts.. Constitutions are not eternal.”
Saied said: We don’t call forchaos and the people have the right to express their will freely.
