The President’s decision to suspend parliament for a renewable month and lift the immunity of deputies was a severe blow to the Legislative Council and to the deputies wanted for justice.
Even the calls made by Parliament Speaker Rashid Al-Athri Ghannouchi and his deputy Samira Al-Shawashi at dawn on July 26th for the rest of the deputies to join the council building and sit-in inside did not resonate even with Ennahda deputies and the Qalb tounes.
On the other hand, the appeal of Mp Seifeddine Al-Makhlouf, head of the Karama bloc, to all deputies to meet immediately to remove the President of the Republic is gone.
What are the possible scenarios for the future of the House of Representatives?
- The President of the Republic has a inferior view of the parliament, which has been called the Legislative Council, which, i.e. parliament, has been the scene of attacks and violence of all kinds and forms by the mainly violent arm of Ennahda,
- It is not unlikely that the President of the Republic will extend the suspension of parliament for an additional month so as to allow the judiciary to hold the 30 deputies wanted to account for justice and to be purified from the “Adran”, i.e. of deputies who are wanted on suspicion of corruption, money laundering, terrorism and deportation….as stated by the spokesman of the economic and financial judicial pole and the fight against terrorism,
- On the other hand, the President of the Republic may resort to activating the report of the Court of Accounting, which brought serious accusations against Ennahda, the heart of Tunisia and the Tunisian Living Association using suspicious funds during the election campaign, at which point all lists can be dropped, but is compensation possible or not? Is that enough to dissolve parliament?
- Parliament can also return to work, but with a new presidency and a new composition of its office, and after the exclusion of the deputies who are called to justice, and then it is assigned to controlled tasks, including the ratification of a new electoral system prepared by a group of experts under the supervision of the Presidency of the Republic, the Law of Parties and the Law of Associations, as well as the ratification of bills of an economic and social dimension and restriction to a certain period until early elections are called within 2022,
- The President of the Republic resorted to dissolving parliament and calling for a referendum on the political system and the electoral system, after making the necessary changes to the composition of the electoral body, which is pursued by several suspicions, at which point the Head of State continues to legislate by decrees…
- These are some possible scenarios, but no one is able to read what Qais Said has in mind or his ability to withstand pressures internally and externally… But surely the coming days will reveal us several secrets and surprises.
