Optimism about the Epidemiological Situation… Pessimism about the Political Crisis!
These days, Tunisians are living under the impact of a number of paradoxes and unprecedented contradictions, which have been worsened by the difficult health conditions resulting from the exacerbation of the Corona pandemic and the faltering of the system of governance.
It is known that Tunisians will participate with Muslims around the world in the celebration of Eid al-Adha on Tuesday, July 20, 2021, which will be an exceptional holiday by all religious, social, economic, political and moral standards, of course.
This year, the religious holiday, specifically five days later, will be accompanied by a national holiday, the Republic Day, July 25, which also coincides with the eighth anniversary of the assassination of the martyr Mohamed Brahmi.
In view of the failure of our new rulers to manage the war against the pandemic and “losing the battle,” as the President of the Republic himself admitted, and as “officials” in the state shouted in panic, speaking of the collapse of the health system, brothers and friends sympathized with us, and medical and humanitarian aid poured in to the extent that it prompted the question of the extent to which these rulers were able to absorb the aid, employ it and make good use of it, especially since the medical one requires very precise procedures, arrangements and deadlines related to preservation and rapid use.
Based on what has been issued so far by the military establishment in terms of a tremendous field effort to focus field hospitals and vaccinate citizens and what the “White Army” has promised us in the exhausted public health sector, as well as the role of civil society and many citizens inside and outside who deserve appreciation, we can be optimistic that the next is better. The improvement of the health situation in the coming days is very likely, especially by rationalizing the disposal of aid, even in what the government decided to import or implement to reduce the burdens of the pandemic, in addition to the fact that the nature of the epidemic itself may lead to a decrease in the severity of the current wave that “completed” its impact and began to decline.
Since the general public mood has been rooted in a conviction that those in power today are in one valley and the people are in another, responsibility requires a doubled effort to dispel fears and restore confidence.
Today, the government must make a double effort to dispose of the resources available locally and provided by various collaborators from the world, and it is inevitable to focus on the broad vaccination process for all citizens, in coordination and tight integration between the security and military administration so as not to disperse efforts and so as not to exhaust the homeland’s guards in tasks that may keep them away from vigilance and direct efforts against the enemies of the homeland from terrorist groups, mercenaries, smugglers and others.
However, it is very difficult to predict that a long-standing political crisis that has reached the point of no return will soon come to an end.
The misunderstanding and estrangement between the three presidencies will undoubtedly continue, and the poor relationship between the two heads of the executive authority, i.e. between the Prime Minister and the President of the Republic on the one hand, and the President of the Republic and the Speaker of the Assembly of the Representatives of the People on the other, will continue and it is no longer possible – even for the personal interest of one of them – to make a concession. Therefore, everyone will wait for the end of the electoral term or the collapse of this party or that as a result of natural and objective counting, since the time of miracles has passed and ended, without forgetting that the laws in force, especially the 2014 Constitution, are all “booby-trapped” texts filled with blanks that open the doors to jurisprudence and interpretations.
In the end, it is the destiny of Tunisians to persevere and defeat the epidemic, or at least besiege it and mitigate its repercussions in defense of their right to life.
Their defense of the rest of civil, political, social and economic rights remains linked to their awareness and defense of themselves at the crucial moment so that they do not remain captives of amateurs, losers, religion merchants, and opportunistic and incompetent politicians.
