Friday, August 27, 2021, President Kais Saied affirmed that “Tunisia is going through exceptional circumstances and measures as a result of the Covid pandemic and as a result of the political pandemic that still exists in Tunisia, and when exceptional measures were taken, they came within the framework of the constitution.”
This came during his participation in the fourth session of the high-level symposium of the partnership initiative between the Group of Twenty and Africa, which was organized remotely, explaining that Tunisia is looking forward to a better future for all humanity, and that this session is an opportunity to talk about the elements of partnership in all fields.
The head of state also stated that: “Exceptional measures are a Western theory primarily based on the theory of necessity, and we look forward with you to the same values within the framework of the rule of law, but within the framework of the society of law, and the reference is the law that represents the basic reference based on justice, fairness and freedom.”
We recall that Saied issued an order on August 23, 2021, to “extend the exceptional measures taken pursuant to Presidential Order No. 80 of 2021 related to suspending the competencies of the Assembly of the Representatives of the People and lifting the parliamentary immunity of all its members, until further notice.”
The head of state touched on the Corona pandemic, saying, “We are going through this pandemic, but there are political and economic pandemics and many different pandemics. We are going through special circumstances that we may overcome as soon as possible, but there are issues that must be resolved from the sources that led to their emergence.. We are not exposed to the results. but for reasons. He concluded, “We look forward with you to the same values within the framework of the rule of law… and the reference in the law based on justice, fairness and freedom, and I believe that we all share in reading history and in anticipating a better future for all of humanity.”
