The United States National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan spoke yesterday, July 31, 2021, with Tunisian President Kais Saied.

In an hour-long call, Sullivan conveyed President Biden’s strong support for the Tunisian people and for Tunisian democracy based on fundamental rights, strong institutions, and a commitment to the rule of law.

Sullivan’s call focused on the urgent need for Tunisian leaders to outline a swift return to the democratic path in Tunisia.

He, therefore, stressed that this would require the rapid formation of a new government led by a prime minister capable of stabilizing the Tunisian economy and facing the COVID-19 pandemic, in addition to ensuring the timely return of the elected parliament.

The United States National Security Advisor said the United States and other friends of the Tunisian people are ready to redouble efforts to help Tunisia move toward a secure, prosperous, and democratic future.

In return, Tunisia’s leaders are required to respond to the demands that have been widely expressed by Tunisians for improved standards of living and honest governance.
