According to a post on Facebook by ” Librairies Al Kitab”,the thinker and historian Hichem Djaït died today, Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at the age of 86 after battling the disease.

Hichem Djaït was born into a family of intellectuals, judges and high officials of the upper middle class of Tunis, and he is the grandson of the great minister Youssef Djaït and the nephew of the scientist and Sheikh Mohamed Abdel Aziz Djaït.

He continued his secondary studies at the Sadikia school before continuing his higher education in the French capital, Paris, where he obtained a history degree in 1962, obtained a doctorate in Islamic history from the Sorbonne University in Paris in 1981, and published by many intellectuals and academic works published in Arabic and French.

Djaït is considered the founding father of the first studies of Islam at the Tunisian University, and he was the first elected president of the Tunisian Academy of Sciences, Arts and Arts “House of Wisdom” in 2012.

Djaït has published many distinguished works including: “The Great Sedition”, “Founding the Islamic West” and “On the Biography of the Prophet” (3 volumes).
