Abdellatif Mekki, a leading figure in Ennahda Party and former Minister of Health, who is one of the members resigning from the Party in the recent period, has lately made some serious statements uncovering a lot of truths basically related to the head of the Movement, Rached Ghannouchi.
In Abdellatif Mekki’s statements, Ghannouchi appears to be the one who solely makes the decision regardless of the opinion of the movement’s institutions, and he is the one who negotiates in secret and without referring to anyone!
Ghannouchi, according to the resigned leader, is a person who listens only to himself, and who lacks integrity and clarity in dealing with his opponents within the movement, his tool in that is “evading and failing to fulfill promises,” in Mekki’s words.
Rached Ghannouchi, Mekki adds, “has refused to resign from the presidency of the movement after July 25 and is planning to extend his term.”
Therefore, it is likely that the tsunami of resignations witnessed by the Ennahda Party in the recent period was mainly caused by the fact that a number of prominent leaders demanded that Ghannouchi resign from Parliament as well as from the presidency of the movement to reduce the tension with President Kais Saied and prevent a slide towards escalation, but he refused to listen to them. On the contrary, he hinted that he would remain at the head of the movement until the convening of its conference and beyond.
In light of Ghannouchi’s insistence on remaining at the head of the Ennahda party despite the poor situation to which he led his party, Abdellatif Mekki explicitly accused Ghannouchi’s decisions of “rolling the red carpet” in front of what he called a coup, which means that what President Kais Saied did on July 25 was nothing but a natural and logical reaction to the unforgivable mistakes of the Speaker of Parliament.
Abdellatif Mekki said that even at the stage of the agreement with the late President Beji Caid Essebsi, or with the former Prime Minister Youssef Chahed, Ghannouchi was acting alone and without consulting with anyone.
