A high-level military delegation met, this Tuesday afternoon, in the honor lounge of the Aouina military airport, the head of the United States Africa Command (Africom), General Stephen Townsend , who arrived in Tunis from Libya, according to a statement published by the Ministry of Defense on September, 28th, 2021.
According to the same source, the meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the areas of training, border security and the fight against terrorism and organized crime.
According to the official website of United States africa command, In Tunisia, Townsend and U.S. Ambassador Donald Blome met with the Tunisian military Chiefs of Staff, to discuss U.S. security efforts on building the capacity of the Tunisian military to counter threats. U.S. Africa Command is committed to a mutually beneficial partnership with the countries in North Africa in order to enhance efforts and contributions to regional security and stability.
It is worth mentioning that, Africom is a combat unit of the US Department of Defense that became operational in 2008. Based in Stuttgart, Germany, it coordinates all military activities with all African countries, with the exception of Egypt which cooperates with the Central Command.
