The Echaab movement remains one of the most unwavering supporters of the President of the Republic Kais Saied. Unlike its ally, the Democratic Current, which has become one of the most virulent critics of the exceptional measures taken by the head of state, which he describes as a “coup d’état”, the party led by Zouahier Maghzaoui, defends tooth and nail the state of exception.

He said on Sunday that Presidential Decree No. 117 dated September 22, 2021, which includes measures for the next step and enshrines the commitment of the President of the Republic not to return to the period before July 25, is an important step on the road to the reform process announced on that date.

According to Echaab, this process came in response to the demands of the people and national forces among parties, national organizations and civil society.

He added in a statement published yesterday that the activation of Article 80 of the Constitution and the measures decided in this direction, have come to rectify the process of the revolution of December 17 and satisfy the demands of the Tunisian people for dignity, employment, the fight against corruption and dictatorship and the achievement of equity between regions and social categories.

Echaab also considers that the national forces supporting the 25 July process among the parties, organizations and national personalities are partners in setting priorities for the next stage, namely the amendment of the Constitution and the electoral law, the decree-law on the organization of parties and associations and in the establishment of a timetable for early parliamentary elections ending the state of emergency.

The national forces that support the rectification process, the statement reads, are called upon to play a political role to ensure its success and to block the way to all attempts at destruction and the return to the system of corruption through the alliance between political Islam, corrupt, smugglers and terrorists.
The Echaab movement deplored in this context the policies and orientations implemented since 2011, consecrating, according to it, financial and political corruption, the dismantling of the State and its institutions and the accumulation of debts by mortgaging the resources of future generations.
Echaab reiterated his opposition to any foreign interference in the country’s internal affairs, pointing the finger at certain political parties and actors who use chancelleries and international organizations to incite them to starve the people and undermine their economy.
