The Tunisian General Labor Union announced on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, that Secretary-General Noureddine Taboubi received Ghazi Chaouachi, Secretary-General of the Democratic Current, Khalil Zawiya, Secretary-General of the bloc, Issam Chebbi, Secretary-General of the Republican Party, and Fadhel Abdelkafi, head of the Afek Tounes party.
In the same context, the Secretary-General of the Republican Party, Issam Chebbi, told “JDD Tunisie”, today, Wednesday, September 22, 2021, that the four parties had issued a joint statement a few days ago after a series of meetings during which the political situation in the country was evaluated.
He added that it was a first step towards moving to assume responsibility and contribute to getting out of this difficult situation, as he put it.
To get more details about the meeting , Chebbi revealed to “JDD Tunisie” that it was a consultative meeting during which the Republican parties, the Democratic Current, the Ettakatol, and the prospects for Tunisia presented their vision and reading of the political situation, while expressing their concern that the exceptional situation would continue indefinitely, until the measures became a source of disruption to the normal functioning of the state’s fields .
According to the same source, it had been agreed with the Central Trade Union to make all necessary efforts and to keep the door of consultation open, referring to the four parties that initially chose to go to the Labor Union in appreciation of its role and its position.
He added that the general secretaries of the aforementioned parties affirmed during their medical meeting their absolute rejection of calls to suspend the constitution, because no party has the right to harm it or change its doors without respecting the political and legal rules and going through a calm national dialogue, according to our interlocutor.
He explained that the President of the Republic announced that he was working within the framework of the constitution, while the article 80 doesn’t allow him to suspend the work of the constitution.
Issam Chebbi confirmed to “JDD Tunisie” that a meeting of the general secretaries of the Republican parties, the Democratic Current, Ettakatol, and Afek Tounes, and delegations from them, will take place today to discuss the next steps.
