Why did the President of the Republic not close the two branches of the Union of Muslim Scholars in Tunis and Sfax, an organization classified as terrorist by the Gulf states that support the July 25 track? A question that is difficult to answer in light of the great secrecy on the part of the Presidency of the Republic and the Ministry of the Interior and the failure to respond to the calls launched by the Free Constitutional Party and the National Observatory for the Defense of the Civilization of the State, as well as a number of activists in the fields of thought such as Professor Al-Siddiq and a number of jurists and media professionals.
The Minister in charge of the Ministry of Interior initiated the closure of the headquarters of the Anti-Corruption Commission and placed its former head, Shawki al-Tabib, and a number of personalities under house arrest without any explanation for these decisions, while one of the last bastions of takfiri thought is still active in broad daylight and started providing lessons before the official start of the school year.
This union was among the first to denounce the President’s announcement of exceptional measures last July 25, despite this, the Tunisian authorities did not move to take the necessary measures against it.
During Kais Saied’s visit to Qatar last November, the establishment of the International Association of Constitutional Law Jurists was announced and its presidency was assigned to the President of the Republic, provided that this association would hold its first annual conference in Tunisia in November 2021.
Everyone knows that the Union of Muslim Scholars has taken its headquarters in the Qatari capital and is funded by the Emirate of Qatar, and that its founder, Yusuf al-Qaradawi, of Egyptian origin, has resided in Doha since he fled his country of origin. And how the dismissed Prime Minister Hisham al-Mashishi himself turned to supervise the dismantling of the sit-in of the Free Constitutional Party by public force.
Thus, the question that arises is: “Is there a relationship between assigning the presidency of the International Association of Constitutional Jurists to the President of the Republic and maintaining the two branches of the Union of Muslim Scholars in Tunisia, and did Saeed promise to protect the two branches of Al-Qaradawi?”
Of course, we will not get any answer to this question, but on the other hand, we hope that the President of the Republic will order the necessary measures to be taken against this focus, which remains much more dangerous than can be imagined for the future of education in Tunisia and for future generations.
