On Monday, August 9, 2021, the Temporary Authority to monitor the constitutionality of bills issued a decision regarding the extension of the deliberation on the challenge to the constitutionality of the draft Law No. 05/2020 related to the ratification of a headquarters agreement between the government and the Qatar Fund for Development on the opening of an office for the Qatar Fund for Development in Tunisia.
The Secretary General of the Temporary Commission for Monitoring the Constitutionality of Laws, Haider Ben Omar, explained to “JDD Tunisie”, that the commission has the right to extend for a period of 7 days after the end of the first period specified for deliberating on the constitutionality of the project, in accordance with Chapter 21 of Law No. 14 of 2014.
It is noteworthy that the Democratic Bloc in the Assembly of the Representatives of the People, whose competencies are suspended, deposited on July 7, a petition challenging the draft law on a headquarters agreement for the Qatar Development Fund in Tunisia, with the temporary authority to monitor draft constitutional laws.
The bloc prepared a set of procedural and substantive reprimands against the controversial bill that was approved by Parliament in a plenary session on June 30, which witnessed a state of protest and disagreements that amounted to physical violence.
