At around 2:30 a.m. today, Monday, July 26, 2021, the head of the Ennahda Movement and Parliament Speaker Rached Ghannouchi directed to the seat of the Assembly of the Representatives of the People with the aim of entering, but the military forces that surrounded Parliament prevented his entry.

The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Samira Chaouachi, who accompanied Ghannouchi, addressed the military forces with a request to allow them to enter Parliament and held them accountable for not opening the door of Parliament, and one of the military informed her that they were implementing the instructions and had nothing to do with those decisions.

“I stand in front of the institution that I head and have been prevented from entering it, and we are amazed that the army is harnessing such behavior to close down a democratic institution. Today it is being referred to us by the decisions taken by the head of state, which violate the constitution,” Ghannouchi declared.

Ghannouchi considered that “the Tunisian people are being attacked in a terrible way,” and called on all national organizations and political forces to stand with the people to defend the people’s values. He accepts apostasy and a return to the eras of tyranny and gives good news to the Tunisian people that their revolution and constitution will be destroyed, as long as freedom is threatened, there is no value for life.”

It is noteworthy that the Presidency of the Republic announced yesterday evening, Sunday, that after consulting the Prime Minister and the Speaker of the Assembly of People’s Representatives, and pursuant to Article 80 of the Constitution, the President of the Republic, Kais Saied, took the following decisions in order to preserve the integrity of the country, the country’s security and independence, and to ensure the normal functioning of the state’s wheels:

The dismissal of the Prime Minister, Hichem Mechichi,

Freezing the work and powers of the House of Representatives for a period of 30 days,

Lifting the parliamentary immunity of all members of the Assembly of the Representatives of the People,

The President of the Republic assumes the executive power with the assistance of a government headed by a Prime Minister and appointed by the President of the Republic,

The Presidency of the Republic announced that an order will be issued in the coming hours regulating these exceptional measures, which were necessitated by the circumstances, and whose causes will be removed. On this occasion, he called on the Tunisian people to pay attention and not to slip behind the advocates of chaos.

It should be noted that Tunisia, in all its provinces, was dominated by an atmosphere of joy, happiness and happiness emanating from the hearts of Tunisians, as an expression of their joy over these historic decisions, coinciding with the anniversary of the 64th Tunisian Republic Day, and ululates erupted in the streets with the use of car whistles with applause.
