Parliament Speaker Rached Ghannouchi said on Sunday, July 25th, that the decisions of the President of the Republic, Kais Saied, have no basis in the law or in the constitution.
In a statement to Al-Jazeera, Ghannouchi indicated that Kaïs Saïed had turned against the revolution and the constitution, saying that the President of the Republic takes some of the constitution and leaves others.
He added, “State institutions exist, and Kaïs Saïed’s interpretation is wrong, and he cannot take exceptional measures except in special circumstances.”
“The constitution forbids the freezing of parliament and the dissolution of the government,” he added, saying that these measures are invalid and that parliament will continue to work as usual.
